Using XML with Quattro Pro

Quattro Pro gives you the flexibility to manually or automatically create XML tags. Tags can be created automatically either from labels or from row and column titles. You can also display an output of the XML tags that have been created.

In addition, you can use Quattro Pro to create top-level root elements and then publish tagged data as an XML file.


To create XML tags manually

Select a cell or range of cells containing text to use to create XML tags.

Click Insert Wordperfect Quattro Pro onestep Using XML with Quattro Pro XML tags.

In the Tag box, type the name of the tag.

Click Add.

To create XML tags from labels

Select a cell or range of cells to use to create XML tags.

Click Insert Wordperfect Quattro Pro onestep Using XML with Quattro Pro XML tags.

Click Labels.

In the Direction area enable one of the following options:
Right — creates XML tags for the cell immediately to the right of any valid cells in the selected range
Left — creates XML tags for the cells immediately to the left of any valid cells in the selected range
Down — creates XML tags for any cells immediately below all valid cells in the selected range
Up — creates XML tags for any cells immediately above all valid cells in the selected range

To create XML tags from row or column titles

Click Insert Wordperfect Quattro Pro onestep Using XML with Quattro Pro XML tags.

Click Generate.

In the Generate XML tags dialog box, click the Range picker Wordperfect Quattro Pro pgx btnsel Using XML with Quattro Pro, and select the cells to tag.
Include the designated labels or headings to use to create the XML tags in the selected cell range.

In the Create XML tags area, enable any of the following check boxes:
Under top row — creates an XML tag for each cell in the selected range, excluding the top row. The XML tags created are based on the text in the top row.
Right of left-most column — creates an XML tag for each cell in the selected range, excluding the left-most column. The XML tags created are based on the text in the left-most column.
Above bottom row — creates an XML tag for each cell in the selected range, excluding the bottom row. The XML tags created are based on the text in the bottom row.
Left of right-most column — creates an XML tag for each cell in the selected range, excluding the right-most column. The XML tags created are based on the text in the right-most column.
Tag cells at intersections — creates a compound XML tag definition for each intersecting cell that includes a row and column label. The XML tags created incorporate both the row and column labels.

To display XML tags

Click Insert Wordperfect Quattro Pro onestep Using XML with Quattro Pro XML tags.

Click Output.

In the Tag table dialog box, type a cell location in the Cells box.

The cell you specify in the Cells box should be in a new area of the spreadsheet, where existing data won’t be overwritten by the output column.

To create a top-level root element

Type a period in each cell around the perimeter of the cell block you want to publish.

Click Insert Wordperfect Quattro Pro onestep Using XML with Quattro Pro XML tags.

In the XML tags dialog box, choose the cell range of all the cells you want to include in the root element.
Include the designated labels, headings, and periods used to create the XML tags in the selected cell range.

XML files can contain only one root element. When publishing with the default range, several root elements are created at the same level so that XML-compliant parsers return an error message.

You can also choose the cell range of all the cells you want to include in the root element by clicking Generate and dragging to select the cells.

To publish tagged data as an XML file

Click the Range picker Wordperfect Quattro Pro pgx btnsel Using XML with Quattro Pro and select a range of cells.
3.
 
Type a path and filename in the Save file box.
4.
 
Click Publish.
